“A sheltered, rich boy must learn to live on his own in a rundown share house, with his crazy housemates and controlling landlord father, and gain his independence or be forced to move back with his parents.”
This is Share House Rules.
From the showrunner Nick Whiting:
“As a teenager no one really told me what it was like to move out. I had older friends, who’d already moved out, but only really saw glimpses of the independent, parent free lifestyle at the parties they would throw. I didn’t, however, see the day to day, nitty gritty, personal conflicts and responsibilities that go with sharing a household with fellow adults, especially one’s you don’t have a pre-existing personal connection to.
I see the Share House series as an unofficial guide to moving out and the things you can expect.
Things like who’s turn is it to buy toilet paper, looking after a housemate when they pass out on the front steps and confronting a housemate for bringing home someone and being super loud, sorry Jared.
These real-world stories will help inform the content of episodes, giving the series a realistic and relatable edge.
We all know the types of people that live in these houses, like the OCD, passive aggressive posted note leaver, the unapologetic slob, the weird artistic type, the foreigner who’s trying their best to fit in, and the naïve, sheltered one who doesn’t understand the reality of the situation. Which one are you? Now imagine that they all live in one house and all the conflicts that come from that.
This is a universal story that pushes past the boundaries of background, race and gender, as we all have to leave home at some point in our lives and embrace adulthood.”
